David William Venable, 70 years old of Hammond passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at his home. He was born on Sunday, May 5, 1946, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Pastor William "Bill" and Marjorie Venable. David graduated Baker High School and was valedictorian in 1964. He was an outstanding dual-sport athlete who attended Southeastern Louisiana University on scholarship to play football and run track. He graduated in 1969 with a degree in mathematics. He was a member of SLU's Former Football Players Association, who helped bring the football program back to Southeastern. David enjoyed life and loved coaching track and field, watching football and was a huge SLU fan, but he especially loved spending time with his family. 

David is survived by his daughters, Brandy Venable and her wife Angela Morgan and Courtney Venable Judge and her husband Mike, his grandsons, Jake and Dylan  Judge, his sisters, Beth Venable Andermann and Judy Venable Williams, also many close friends. 

He is preceded in death by parents, Pastor William "Bill" and Marjorie Venable. 

A Visitation for David will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond. A Memorial Service Celebrating David's Life will immediately follow visitation at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel.
