Dr. Milton Joseph "Deacon Dutch" Schanzbach passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home at the age of 91.  He was born on Thursday, March 4, 1926 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Elsie Parr Schanzbach and the late John Schanzbach.  He was a resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.  Prior to becoming a Deacon, Doc served as youth coach and commissioner of Youth Athletics.  He was also active in numerous civic organizations.  He served on the Board of Directors and President of the Ponchatoula Homestead Association.   Milton was a deacon for over 30 years at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  He also served the Ponchatoula community as an optometrist for 35 years. He was a wonderful man that will be missed by all who knew him.  

Milton is survived by daughter, Patricia Schanzbach Steib and her husband Ronald; son, Michael Schanzbach and his wife Debra Steib Schanzbach; grandchildren, Lisa Burton and her husband Michael, Sandra Majesty, Brandon Schanzbach and his wife Courtney, and Brittany Schanzbach; great-grandchildren, Ryan Davis and Audrey, Caeli Smith, Gabel Majesty, Natalie Anne Burton, Andrew Burton, Carson Schanzbach, Clara Jane Schanzbach, and great-great grandchild, Ryan Davis, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Willie Luebke Schanzbach; parents John and Elsie Parr Schanzbach; brother, Jay Schanzbach; and grandson-in-law, J.P. Majesty.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, from 9:00 am until 11:15 am.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Ponchatoula Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 255 N. 8th St, Ponchatoula, LA 70454.
