Edward Hewitt Bauerle Jr.  died on Saturday, Dec. 3  after battling cancer.  He was 79 years old and had just recently celebrated his sixty year wedding anniversary with the love of his life, Betty Richardson Bauerle.  He was a resident of Springfield, LA and a native of Hammond, LA.

He worked on his family’s dairy farm in Hammond throughout his childhood. As a young adult he worked in his uncle’s cabinet shop.  He would refine his craft as a carpenter working in Baton Rouge building schools, churches and businesses.  Some of his jobs included being a foreman on the first addition of the LSU stadium.  He was promoted to superintendant heading jobs such as the Two United Building on Essen, the State Police Training Academy and his last and biggest job the Pennington Biomedical research Center.  He retired from the Louisiana Carpenter Union local 1098 in Baton Rouge.

His hobbies that brought him great enjoyment was fishing, and restoring antique tractors and lawnmowers.  At fourteen years old he designed and built his first 10 x 4 foot fishing boat and designed and built several larger fishing boats during his earlier years.

In his lifetime he would serve the Lord in different ways.  As a young man he taught Sunday school for the young adult class, assisted on the church bus and at times in his life served on the maintenance and building committee for his church.

It was known that if Ed gave you his word he would stand by it.  He was a man of great strength and integrity.  He was a good problem solver and could build, fix and repair most anything.  He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
