Gaines “Pops” Tyrus Bazell, 78 years old of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at home with his family by his side. He was born on Monday, February 26, 1940, in Mobile, Alabama to Tyrus Gaines and Nellie Vining Bazell. Pop’s was a Deputy Marshall for over 30 years for the 7th Ward Gordon Anderson Marshall’s office. Pop’s enjoyed life and loved fishing, music, cooking, watching westerns, fixing things and was considered a jack of all trades and master of them all, but he especially loved spending time with his family.

Pop’s is survived by his sons, Tyrus “Tiger” (Kim) Bazell, Barry Smith and his wife Alesha, Vernon Smith and Ricky (Lori) Cannon, his grandchildren, Kalyn Bazell, Nickey Mansfield and her husband Bobby, Cassady, Samantha, Kody and Brody Smith, his great grandson, Dalton Lofton, also many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Pop’s is preceded in death by his parents, Tyrus Gaines and Nellie Vining Bazell, his son John Smith, and his sisters, Nellrena Laird and Kaye Dianne Bazell.

A Visitation for Pop’s will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula. A Memorial Service Celebrating Pop's Life will immediately follow visitation at 1:00pm in the funeral home chapel.
