George Truman Bigelow Sr., 73 years old,  longtime resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 12, 2018.

He was born on Thursday, May 31, 1945, in Bogalusa. Louisiana where he was raised. George voluntarily joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was promoted to Drill Sergeant. He graduated with a Master's Degree in History from Southeastern Louisiana University. George worked for the State of Louisiana as a social worker and claims adjuster for 27 years. He was also a published writer. George's second home was Oak Knoll Country Club. He was an avid golfer and deeply loved his five grandchildren. George also enjoyed organizing fundraisers for political candidates.

George is survived by Catherine Kidd, his sister, Diane Bigelow, his brother, Stanley Bigelow and his wife, Marilyn, his son, George Bigelow, Jr., his daughter, Fay Morrison and her husband, Enoch, his grandchildren, Amber Morrison (15), Joseph Bigelow (15), Ethan Morrison (14), David Morrison (10), and John Morrison (9), as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Ruth Bigelow. He will be remembered for his big personality, his love of life, and his passion for golf.

Friends will be received Monday, July 16, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 10:00 am in Ponemah Cemetery, Bogalusa, Louisiana .

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the American Heart Association.
