Helen Lucille Ricketts Hooks Rownd passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016, in Hammond, LA, at the age of 95. She was born on Saturday, November 27, 1920, in Loranger, Louisiana to the late Lydia Rumpf Ricketts and Paul G. Ricketts. She was a resident of Hammond, Louisiana. Helen was a teacher at Hammond High School for 25 years. She was a remarkable woman, teacher, business woman, devoted wife and mother, and pioneering pilot. Helen was an elite member of the Women Air Force Service Pilots of WWII known as "WASP". On March 10, 2010, the 111th Congress awarded Helen the Congressional Gold Medal. Helen is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Paul and Linda Hooks, grandchildren, Claude and Brian Hooks, son-in-law, Gary Kramer, stepchildren, Lou Anne Vicknair, Billy and Aurelia Rownd, Farley Lobdell, Harry and Ann Rownd, Tudy and Jeff Moore, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude Hooks; second husband, W.S. Rownd, Jr.; parents, Lydia Rumpf Ricketts and Paul G. Ricketts; and her daughter, Claudia Hooks Kramer. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, 100 West Church Street, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church on Thursday morning from 9:30 am until service time.
