Helen Marie Russo, 86 years old of Hammond,Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2019, at home with her family by her side. She was born on Monday, August 21, 1933 in New Orleans,Louisiana to Harold and Sylvia Frierson Welch. Helen loved to visit people she was very social and had the gift of gab. Helen enjoyed life and loved going to the casinos, shopping, collecting dolls and nick nacks, but she especially loved spending time with her family.
Helen is survived by her daughters,Rose Chadwick and her husband Michael and Janice Russo, her sons, Mike Russo,Kelly Russo, Jr. and his wife Mary, John Russo and his wife Debbie and Tommy Russo and his wife Charlene, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, hersister, Jannie Merle Griffin, also many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents,Harold and Sylvia Frierson Welch, her husband, Kelly Russo, Sr. and her daughter, JoAnn Hosey.
The family would like to express a very special thanks to Linda Billado and her grandson Joshua Hosey, for all their love, support and compassion shown to Helen over the years. The family would like to also thank the professional, respectful and wonderful caring staff at Compassus Hospice and her special caregivers, Anna Mae, Holly and Kristie for their exemplary love, care and friendship they gave Helen and soon became a part of their family.
A Visitation for Helen will be held on Monday, September 16, 2019 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond and continue Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond. A Funeral Mass Celebrating Helen's Life will immediately follow Tuesday’s visitation at 11:00 am in the church. Interment will follow at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery in Hammond.
In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://act.alz.org in Helen’s memory.
