Irene Marie Waguespack Songy passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 surrounded by her family, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 73. She was born on Thursday, March 9, 1944 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a resident of Loranger, Louisiana.
Irene is survived by children, Wanda Polk, Stratton Songy (companion, Fran), Clint Songy, and Wendy Hotard and her husband Barry; sister, Claire Britt; grandchildren, Cheyenne Cluee, Jada Songy, Breanna Songy, Kayli Songy, Taylor Chiro, and Shannie Songy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Carroll J. Songy; parents, Odile Zeringue Waguespack Hindelang and Norbert Waguespack; sister, Ruby Rousselle; and grandson, Jai Polk.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 600 North Oak Street, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 12:00 pm. Visitation will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, on Sunday, March 26, 2017, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church from 10:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will follow in St. Dominic Catholic Cemetery, Husser, Louisiana.
