Jane McLendon Core received her “angel wings” on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. She was born in Donaldsonville, Louisiana on June 24, 1928 to W.F. and Henrietta McLendon and is survived by a brother, Herman McLendon.  Jane was preceded in death by her brother, W.F. McLendon Jr., and her sister, Flora Nelson. 

She was the beloved wife of the late Talmadge E. Core for 58 years. In those years they built a strong family legacy that is carried on by their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mother of Susan Flora Willie and spouse Keith R. Willie, Daniel McLendon Core and spouse Laura Mitchell Core, Talmadge Floyd Core and spouse Peggy McLain Core, and Patrick Andrew Core and spouse Kathy Lemane Core. Grannie to Flori Willie Sweatt and spouse David, Clinton Talmadge Willie and spouse Jean, Randall Mitchell Core, Jacob McLendon Core and spouse Jo, Daniel Edward Core, Rebecca Jeanne Core, Christine Engbers and spouse Bryant, Travis Andrew Core and spouse Abby, Joshua Clark Core, and the late Susan Lorraine Core. Great-Grannie to Samuel Owen Sweatt, Eli Keith Sweatt, Carolyne Jane Willie, Abigail Flora Willie, Talmadge Core Willie, and Blake Susan Core. As the matriarch of a closely knit family she will be greatly missed.

Jane grew up in Old Metairie and attended Southeastern where she became homecoming queen and was chased by a football star from Folsom.  Jane and Talmadge were married in 1948 and lived and taught in Gonzales and Westlake before settling in Folsom where she lived for fifty-one years. After serving as the principal for seventeen years at River Forest, antiquing became a big part of her life. However, her family was the pride of her life and being a Momma and Grannie was her joy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life on Friday, August 3, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Folsom with visitation at 9:00am followed by a funeral service at 11:00a.m.  There will be a private burial at Core Cemetery.
