80 year old Lacey Jean "Jeannie" Mizell passed away at her home in Houston on Saturday, June 23, 2018.  She was born in Holden, Louisiana March 26, 1938 to Roy Wesley and Mary Viola (Girlie) Mizell.  She attended school in Holden until her mother moved to Hammond, Louisiana so she could attend Hammond High School where she graduated.  She then attended and graduated from Southeastern College in Hammond with a teaching/journalism degree.  While attending Southeastern College she was crowned Miss Southeastern College.  After graduation from college she moved to Houston, Texas to pursue a teaching career in the Houston School System.  After retiring from teaching she worked for Continental Airlines until she retired.  She loved to travel and see the world and one of her favorite destinations was Africa.  Lacey Jean was preceded in death by her father Roy Wesley Mizell who was killed in World War II, her mother Mary Viola Mizell Bankston and her stepfather Casey William Bankston.  She is survived by her sister Carla Mae Mizell, nephews Edwin Royal Lipscomb III, Darrin Ray Lipscomb and his wife Claudia, step-sister Patsy Story and her husband Paul, step-nephew Billy Story and step-niece Vicky Story Petho and their children, great nieces Laurah Lipscomb-Espitia, Marie and Marian Lipscomb and great nephews Grayson and Christopher Lipscomb, great great nephews Pollo "Trase" Mouton, Eli, Noah and Luke Espitia and a host of cousins in Louisiana.  There will be a service late Thursday for her friends in Houston, Texas and then for her family and friends in Louisiana a service will be held in Hammond, Louisiana on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at the Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond, Louisiana.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and the service from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Garland Mizell officiating.  Burial will follow at the Courtney Cemetery in Holden, Louisiana where she will be buried next to her parents.
