Leonard "Tuffy" L. Wainwright,age 84 of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at home with his family by his side. He was born on Saturday, October 6, 1934, in Hammond to Leonard and Pearl Sawyer Wainwright. Tuffy served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a former President of the City Club, a member of the Jaycees,a lifetime member of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce and a retired plumbing contractor. 

Tuffy is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Carla Powell Wainwright of Baton Rouge, his sisters, Mary Ellen Drude and her husband Jake and Pat Wainwright Woltersdorf, also many nieces, nephews and close friends. 

Tuffy was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Pearl Sawyer Wainwright, his wife, Jackie Turnage Wainwright, his son, Leonard Wainwright, II, his daughter, Cynthia Lynne Wainwright, his brother and sister in law, Carl Thomas Wainwright and Katie Wainwright, and his sisters, Pearl Ester Wainwright Jordan and Grace Wainwright Robertson.

A Visitation for Tuffy will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Harry McKneely &Son Funeral Home in Hammond. A Funeral Service Celebrating Tuffy's Life will immediately follow visitation at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Rev. James Stayton will officiate. Tuffy's pallbearers are Richard Drude, Greg Drude,Michael Drude, John Woltersdorf, William Wainwright, Tyler Drude, Cameron Wainwright and James Frosch. His honorary pallbearers are Gary and David Wainwright. Interment will follow at Holly Gardens Cemetery in Hammond. 

In lieu of flowers the family wishes all memorial donations be made to the Ginger Ford Fuller Center for Housing, 955 S. Morrison Blvd. Hammond, Louisiana 70404 or First Presbyterian Church, 411 W. Charles St., Hammond, LA 70401 in Tuffy's memory
