Lloyd Walter Salathe, 69 years old of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017, at North Oaks Medical Center.

He was born on Sunday, July 11, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lloyd graduated from Ben Franklin High School and LSU School of Engineering.

He worked as a Chemical Engineer for Union Carbide/Dow for 39 years (1970-2009), where he was an oxide unit manager and a safety program manager.

Lloyd was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hammond, where he served as an elder for 20 years. He was also a past president of the men's club and sang in the choir. During his retirement, he enjoyed his backyard and "once in a lifetime experiences."

Lloyd was a beloved and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Rita B. Salathe; daughter, Kathryn Johnson and her children, Cameron, Emmanuel and Logan; daughter, Elizabeth Salathe Sledge and her spouse Jonathan Sledge; and grand-daughter, Olivia. Lloyd is also survived by his mother, Faith W. Salathe; and siblings, Lynn Salathe Junke, Gary Salathe and Neil Salathe.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Salathe.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on  Wednesday, August 30, 2017 from 6:00 pm until the Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 pm.
