Luddie Butler Helms, age 80 of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019, at her residence. She was born on Sunday, January 29, 1939, in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of the late Mark D. and Ann Stecher Butler.


Luddie was a Graduate of LSU, band member and lifetime member of Phi Mu. She was a member of the Oakknoll Country Club Ladies Golf Association, the Golden Opportunities, the Holy Ghost Catholic Church Choir, and the SLU Alumni Association. After retiring as a school teacher in Tangipahoa Parish she was a volunteer at NorthOaks Medical Center. Luddie was a lover of Golf, LSU, SLU & Saints Football, reading, and rummikub. Above all else, Luddie Helms loved people; she never met a stranger. Grammy thank you for gracing us with 80 years of love and a lifetime  of memories.

Luddie is survived by her sons, William N. McGuyer III and his wife Diane, Mark P. McGuyer and his wife Nancy, step-sons, Donald Helms and his wife Gail, Lawrence Helms, Robert Helms and his wife Wendy, grandchildren, Scarlett Banks, Chrisanne Helms, Peter McGuyer, Hannah McGuyer, Collin McGuyer, Matthew McGuyer, Brittany Helms, Brandon Helms, Jonathan McGuyer, Christopher McGuyer, and Ty Helms, 7 great-grandchildren, sisters, Patricia Fields, Betty Burson, and her brother, Bert Butler.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William McGuyer, Jr., second husband, Bobby Helms, and her grandson, William McGuyer IV.

Family and friends will be received at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 600 North Oak Street Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Friday, October 18, 2019 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.

A Mass of Christen Burial will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Friday at 11:00 am with Fr. Cayet Mangiaracina, O.P. officiating.

Interment will follow at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana.
