Wilfred Lee Gomez Sr., 91 years old of Hammond, Louisiana, gained his angel wings on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at North Oaks Medical Center surrounded by his family.

He was born on Monday, July 19, 1926, in Hammond, son of the late Sidney Joseph and Vera Griffin Gomez Sr.

Lee was a kind, gentle, godly man who loved the Lord and his family. He served in the Coast Guard during WW II and was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Hammond for many years.

He retired from Bell South after 35 years of service and enjoyed growing flowers in his garden.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Verlie Joiner Gomez, son & daughter-in-law, Wilfred L. and Marion L. Gomez, Jr., numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his brother, Frank Gomez.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Penny P. McLin, a grandson, sisters, VeLore Lipscomb, Juanita Carr, and Dauphine Wascomb, brothers, Sidney Joseph Gomez, Jr., Milton Gomez, and Lucius Gomez.

Friends will be received on Monday, June 11, 2018 from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond.

Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday beginning at 12:00 pm, with Rev. Tom Cobb officiating.

Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery Hammond, Louisiana.
