Otto Joseph Maurer, Sr., 67 years old of Independence, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at his home.
He was born on Monday, March 7, 1949, in Independence, Louisiana to William and Josie Lashouta Maurer. Otto was valedictorian of his high school class. He proudly served his country as a US Marine in Vietnam. Otto loved his work as a Construction Superintendent at MAPP Construction LLC in Baton Rouge. Otto enjoyed life and loved old movies and history, but he especially loved spending time with his family.
Otto is survived by his loving wife, Melanie Marcus Sims, his children, Otto J. Maurer, Jr., Giles Ivanyisky and her husband Eugene and Fred Trahan and his wife Kristen, his grandchildren, Sarah Novak, Katelyn Trahan and Cole Trahan, and his brother, Danny Maurer and his wife Heather, also many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He is preceded in death by parents, William and Josie Lashouta Maurer, his grandson, Billy Paul Novak, his sister, Josie Mae Soell and his brother, Charles W. Maurer.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond.
