Paula Genco Spear passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 66.  She was born on Wednesday, August 29, 1951 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Mary Esther Gulotta and the late Paul Genco.  She was a resident of Amite, Louisiana.

Paula is survived by her beloved family: her son, William Glyndon Hall and daughter-in-law, Emily Phillips-Hall, mother, Mary Esther Genco, sister, Loreta Campo and her husband, Steve; brother, Charles Genco and his wife, Mary; sister-in-law, Jackie Genco; four adoring grandchildren, Mackenzie, Rilee, Abram, and Whitney Hall; nieces and nephews, Steve Campo, III., Mary-Lauren Campo, Christy Lyn Morgan and her husband, Joel, Paul Genco, and Charly Lyn Genco

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Arthur Spear, her father, Paul Genco; and brother, John Genco.

Paula dedicated her life to the education of language, especially English and Spanish.  Over the course of her 45 year career, she taught at St. Charles Borromeo in St. Charles Parish, St. Joan of Arc in St. John the Baptist Parish, St. Charles Catholic High School in St. John the Baptist Parish, East Ascension High School in Ascension Parish, Destrehan High School in St. Charles Parish, Bowling Green in Washington Parish, and Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana.  She will forever be remembered in the lessons that she taught to her students of such an illustrious career.  

After Paula’s teaching career, she was co-owner of University Donuts in Hammond, Louisiana, and P.G. & W.G. Properties, also in Hammond, Louisiana.  She was a member of the Krewe of Omega and sang in the St. Helena Catholic Church Choir in Amite, Louisiana.  She will forever be missed by her students, former students, friends, and family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Helena Catholic Church, 120 S. First St., Amite, Louisiana 70422, on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 12:00 pm.  Visitation will be held in the church hall beginning at 9:30 am until 11:30 am.

Inurnment will follow in Amite Memorial Gardens, Amite, Louisiana.
