Samuel Louis Morgan, a resident of Independence, Louisiana, passed away on April 16, 2021 at the age of 69. He was born  in Memphis, Tennessee on April 13, 1952. Sammy was a happily retired Senior Safety Professional after a lengthy career of dedicated service with Bechtel Corporation. He lived a full life, enjoying his many hobbies which included becoming an avid and accomplished long distance cyclist. He was also passionate about all animals, especially dogs, who he trained in his youth. Sammy could expertly educate anyone who asked (or even if they didn't) about all aspects of wild and domestic animal life. The same can be said for his vast comprehension of history and geography. No one enjoyed his wealth of knowledge more than his beloved granddaughter, Madeline Rose. He enjoyed gardening and faithfully fed the plethora of birds found in his yard year round.

Sammy will be sadly missed by his wife, Joan Morgan; daughter and son-in-law, Colby and Aaron Colona; granddaughter, Madeline Colona; father and step mother, Frank and Dee Morgan; sisters, Margaret Huston, Paula Owens, and Kathy Morgan; brothers, Ed Morgan, Earl Morgan and Shane Morgan; and pet kitty, Andy. He also leaves behind his very special cousin and "brother from another mother," Wayne Morgan; his step dog, Pippa; as well as a host of cherished step siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sammy was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Betty Hughes Reeves, loving grandmother and grandfather, Pauline and Jesse Hughes, and paternal grandparents, Snead and Laura Morgan.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.
