Sylvia Jean Laird Oliphant went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 2, 2018, surrounded by her loving family in her home after a long, brave battle with lymphoma.

Jean was born on May 8, 1943 in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, to Gene and Myrtle Laird, the youngest of 8 siblings. She married the love of her life, Jim Oliphant, on January 19, 1963. Jean dedicated her life to Jesus and her beloved family with pure love, devotion, and faith.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, VW 'Gene' and Myrtle Laird; brother, Ellison Laird; sisters, Evelyn Hardy, Helen Rockenbaugh, Millie Riall, and Wanda LeBlanc; and her granddaughter Stepheni Perez.  

Jean's life will forever be remembered and cherished by her husband, James Oliphant; daughters, Karla Rakocy and Kathy Addison; son-in-law, Rocky Rakocy; grandchildren Nikki Schroeder, Rocky Parent, Jamie Parent, Kenya Parent, Caleb Addison, Hunter Rakocy and Brock Rakocy; and her great-grandchildren, Ava Parent, Trenton Perez, Hannah Perez, Braedyn Stephens, Wyatt Bennett, Caden Perez, and Lincoln Grice; brother, Richard 'Dickie' Laird; and sister Wilda Mayhall; as well as her extended family and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 9:00 am at Collins Cemetery Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
