Travis Juan Edwards, age 68 of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at his residence. He was born on Wednesday, July 18, 1951, and grew up on a strawberry farm on the east side of Ponchatoula.

He was a member of the United States Army National Guard. Travis also was a Chapter President of the Ponchatoula Jaycees where he also represented them on the Strawberry Festival Board and in 1983 was the Charter President of the Ponchatoula Lions Club. In 1994 he was elected to the Tangipahoa Parish Council in District 9. He was chosen as Strawberry Festival King in 2005 and continued to served as a board member for 9 years. Travis was the epitome of what community service is about. He retired from Shell Oil as a Welder Foreman and started the Shell retiree luncheon. He was Past Vice-President of Local 4-447 O.C.A.W. He and Debbie loved to travel, having visited 48 of the 50 United States. He loved LSU football and baseball and was a strong man of faith who loved the Lord. He will be greatly missed!  

Travis is survived by his wife of 49 years, Debbie Decota Edwards, daughter, Amy Edwards Newsham and her husband Brad, sons, Travis H. Edwards,  Dustin G. Edwards, grandchildren, Decota Harris, Braelon Newsham, Avis Rose Edwards, Ashley Newsham, and Dade Newsham, brother, Dudley Edwards and his wife Rosalie, brother-in-law, Adam "Al" Decota, nieces, Lora Bojsen, and Lynette LeJeune; and 3 first cousins who were like his brothers, Bruce, Hotshot and Hut Kinchen.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dudley Hilton Edwards, mother and step-father, Lemelda Graham Lavigne and Salvador C. Lavigne, brother, Wallace Lee Edwards, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Adam and Avis Barker Decota, sister-in-law, Margaret Settoon Decota.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula , 100 W. Magnolia St. Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 8:00 am until 11:00 am.

Services will be held in the funeral home chapel in Ponchatoula, on Thursday,  at 11:00 am, with Rev Glynn Fendlason officiating.

Interment will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
