Velma Irene Petho Kovach, 88, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017, peacefully and gracefully in the arms of our Lord Jesus in Hammond. She was born on Saturday, September 1, 1928, in Springfield, Louisiana to Nicholas Petho Sr. and Juliana Albert Petho Vass. Velma was a resident of Belle Maison Nursing Home in Hammond for 17 years. She enjoyed life and loved to cook, read and color. Velma was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother. She was an active member of Albany Hungarian Presbyterian Church who loved Jesus and Bible scripture. She was a strawberry farmer and also the valedictorian of her high school graduating class. 

Velma is survived by her son, Frank Kovach, Jr. and his wife Delta; daughter, Linda Robb and her husband David; grandchildren, Bridgett Kovach Mack and her husband Shane; great-grandchildren, Dylan Shane Mack, and Annabelle Elyse Mack; and sister, Ruby Violet Petho.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas Petho Sr. and Juliana Albert Petho Vass; husband, Frank Kovach Sr.; grandson, Ryan Frank Kovach; sisters, Priscilla Pauline Petho Biben, Rose Petho Kish, Goldie Petho Ervin, and Juliana Petho; and brothers, Nicholas Petho Jr., Albert Joseph Petho, Alexander Joseph Petho Sr., Andrew Francis Petho, Rudolph Raymond Petho Sr., William Petho, and Ernest Petho. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. and continue on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond. A Funeral Service Celebrating Velma's Life will immediately follow visitation at 10:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Don Thursby. Interment will follow in Albany Hungarian Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Albany.
