Vermelle Hoyt Sylvest, native of Amite, Louisiana, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, July 1, 2019, at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge at the age of 93. She was born on September 12, 1925, in Amite, Louisiana, the daughter of the late John R. Hoyt and Eva Jane Robertson Hoyt.
Vermelle is survived by her son, Dennis Bickford (Karen); daughter, Paula Bickford Graves; grandchildren, Aaron Bickford (Maureen), Claire Sartwell (Michael), Benjamin Bickford (Ashlie), Eric Graves, Robyn Labruzzo (Joe), and Andy Sylvest (Jen); great grandchildren, Savannah Powell, Matthew Graves, Brayden Bickford, Aubree Bickford, Ellen Sartwell, Lilley Sartwell, Mason Sylvest, Luke Sylvest, Ben Sylvest, Parker Sylvest, Erin Bickford, and Abigail Graves; daughter-in-law, Linda Sylvest; granddaughter-in-law, Tammy Sylvest; loving caregiver, Catherine Charleston; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Vermelle was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Bickford, and Richard Sylvest; son, Dick Sylvest; grandson, Chris Sylvest; brother, Charlie Hoyt; and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Edwards Bickford.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 10:00 AM until the Funeral Service begins at 12:00 PM.
Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Hammond, Louisiana.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Bickford, Benjamin Bickford, Eric Graves, Andy Sylvest, Matthew Graves, Brayden Bickford, and Joe Labruzzo.
