Walter Lee Parker Sr. passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, at the age of 89.  He was born on Thursday, February 23, 1928 in Springfield, Louisiana to the late Irene Lee Corbin Parker and the late Benjamin Franklin Parker.  He was a resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

Walt was a proud veteran of the United States Navy having served as an aerial photographer at the end of World War II and was an active member of the local American Legion.  After his retirement as a chemical engineer he began to work and volunteer as a general handyman and licensed electrician. He was a passionate volunteer lending his time and talents to organizations such as the Gideons, the United Methodist Men, the Weekend of the Cross helping to build wheelchair ramps, the Cursillo Community, numerous disaster relief efforts and mission work.  Walt also enjoyed fishing, hunting and photography.

Walt is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine Sutherland Parker; daughter, Mary Elizabeth (George) Core; sons, Walter Lee (Shirley) Parker, Jr. and David William Parker; brother, George (Inez) Parker; sisters, Ruby Burns Martin, Louella Davis, Jean Garaudy, Nelda (T.J.) Dendinger, Daunce Parker, Gail  (Bradley) Gowland; granddaughters, Joice Ellen (Jeremy) Holden, Estelle Irene (Wes) McCarty, Harriet (Jeremiah) Chamberlain; grandsons, Walter Lee (Katie) Parker, III, Stephen David (Tiffany) Parker, Marc William Parker; 12 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold Lloyd Parker.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Ceremony at the First United Methodist Church of Ponchatoula, 201 E. Pine St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:00 am.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017, 9:00 am - 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church of Ponchatoula.

In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Ponchatoula.
