Eddie B. Richardson, age 66, of Ponchatoula, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 12, 2019 at North Oaks Hospital. He was born on Tuesday, December 9, 1952. Eddie retired from the Hammond Daily Star after 37 years of service from Dec. 11, 1972, to May 16, 2008. His primary duty almost all those years was operating the newspaper's large offset production camera that produced page-size negatives from which aluminum plates were made to run on the press. Beloved by his co-workers and friendly to all, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the technology of the day with countless schoolchildren and others who would tour the newspaper publishing plant.
He also worked at Target in Hammond, retiring from there as well.
After retiring from the Daily Star, Eddie enjoyed traveling and visiting his daughter and grandchildren in Georgia. Most Friday and Saturday nights Eddie could be found dancing with friends and enjoying local bands.
Eddie is survived by 1 daughter, Kim Nicassio and son-in-law Alex Nicassio; 3 grandchildren, Alexandra Elise Richardson Nicassio, Colin Joseph Nicassio and Annalise Anntoinette Nicassio, all from Alanta, Georgia; 1 uncle, Hollis Richardson, Dallas, Texas; 1 sister, Susie Irby of Ponchatoula; 3 brothers, Floyd Jr. and Lonnie Richardson of Dallas, Texas and Robert Richardson of San Diego California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Richardson; mother Opal Richardson Barker of Ponchatoula; brother, David Richardson of Dallas, Texas; grandfather, Johnny Richardson; and grandmother, Dora Bailey Richardson.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Ponchatoula, 100 W. Magnolia St. Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 19, 2019 from 9:00 am until the Funeral Service begins at 11:00 am at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Ponchatoula, 100 W. Magnolia St. Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454.
Interment will follow at Ponchatoula Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
