John Joseph Delvisco, Sr. passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 81. He was born on Saturday, February 29, 1936 in Independence, Louisiana. John was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion Adam Grechman Post 109. John retired after 30 years with Shell Chemical where he worked in maintenance and served as a Past Union President. He was also a butcher with Piggly Wiggly and worked in maintenance in Roseland for the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development.
John is survived by his son, John J. Delvisco, Jr. and his wife Ginger Delvisco; brother, Angelo Delvisco, and sisters, Phine D. Lopinto, Shirley Delvisco, Mary Ann Delvisco, Fannie D. Guzzardo, Bella D. Holden, and Virginia D. Chenvert; granddaughter, Jennifer Baudier and her husband, Alfred, granddaughter, Mary Catherine Murphy and her husband Chad, and grandson, Edmond Ganucheau, IV; and great-grandchildren, Justin, Kayla, & Emily Baudier, Alexis Messina, and McKenzie Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Goldean Crawford Delvisco; parents, Peter Delvisco and Jennie Matria Delvisco; two brothers, Salvadore Delvisco and Joe Delvisco; and three sisters, Mamie Delvisco, Jeanette Delvisco, and Rosalie Delvisco.
The Delvisco family extends their gratitude to nurse, Lisa King and to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice and The Carpenter House for their compassionate care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the chapel of Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and continue until 11:00 am.
Interment, with military honors, will follow in Colonial Cemetery Mausoleum, Independence, Louisiana.
