Larry Dale Richardson, 74, passed away July 13, 2022, at the home he shared with his wife in Marana, Arizona. Born to Ellsworth and Josephine Richardson on February 22, 1948, Larry was raised on a farm in Springfield, Louisiana, where he always dreamed of flying and seeing the world beyond the skies of his childhood. After graduating from Springfield High School in 1966, Larry earned his Bachelors of Science degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and later his Masters of Science degree from Troy State University. Upon entering the United States Air Force, Larry followed his childhood dreams and became the warrior that his family and friends admired, respected, and adored. Larry’s career in the military started as an F4 “backseater”, but when given the opportunity to move up front, the man known simply as “Cajun” did what he had always done: he worked tirelessly to graduate at the top of his class from Fighter Weapons School and into a front seat position of the F15. It was in Sacramento, California that Larry met the love of his life, Noreen, becoming her 47-year partner and father to Julie and Christian, who would join his son Scottie as Larry’s most ardent admirers. After a multitude of stations around the world, Larry and Noreen returned to Sacramento. It was here that Larry went from a warrior for his country and family to a warrior for himself, fighting courageously through his battles with cancer and the illnesses that followed. Despite the struggles, Larry maintained an infectious laugh, a perfectionist’s eye, and a desire to enjoy all that this life had to offer. These qualities would never diminish.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth and Josephine; sisters, Barbara and Lucille. He is survived by his devoted wife, Noreen; children, Scottie, Julie (Allan), and Christian (Shannon); grandchildren, Lindsay (Jason), Colleen, Chad, Hannah, Emma, and Ally; and siblings, Bruce (Shirley), Neil (Nita), Faye Harshman (Dale), and Hilda Kump (widowed Louis); along with many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services on August 6, 2022, at the Blood River Church of God, 23595 Blood River Road, Springfield, Louisiana, 70462 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. The burial will follow in Carter Cemetery in Springfield, Louisiana. It is here that his family will say goodbye to this fearless warrior, whose memories and lessons will continue to guide them.
