Melvin L. Richard

Melvin L. Richard of Whitehall, La passed away at home on March 18, 2022 at the age of 75, after a battle with peritoneal mesothelioma.

He was a retired teacher and coach in Tangipahoa and Livingston Parishes and a beef cattle farmer to the very end.  Melvin was a long time member of the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association.  He loved gardening and raising bromeliads.  A graduate of Maurepas High School and Southeastern LA University with a Masters +30 in Education.  Melvin was also a Vietnam Era veteran stationed in the 84th Engineer CO USAREUR in Germany.

He is survived by his brothers, Charles Richard and wife Jeanette of Ponchatoula, La, and Paul Richard and wife Docia of Huntsville, Tx; a sister, Denise Richard of Whitehall, La; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Verdun and Billie Langdon Richard; sisters, Gloria Dupuy and JoAnn Brown.  

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Stephens Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Jason Palermo with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.. Interment will follow in Whitehall Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Cancer Services of GBR or enrollment in Masses is preferred.
